Beyond the Metrics: Building Meaningful LinkedIn Impact

Do LinkedIn content impressions metrics matter?

Yes, but not as much as you might think.

It has been reported that, an impression on LinkedIn is defined as, “the number of times your post appears on someone’s screen for at least 300 milliseconds, with at least 50% of the content in view on a signed-in member’s device”.

While impressions are great for measuring awareness, if it is the case that, 50% of the content visible for just 300 milliseconds, it doesn’t guarantee your content was noticed, had impact, or acted upon.

Of course, there are going to be people who view your content longer and more thoughtfully – but regardless, impressions alone don’t tell the full story.

This is where quality over quantity comes into play.

✨ It’s not about how many people see your content – it’s about what outcomes you’re getting from LinkedIn and how that aligns with your strategy.

Here are three questions I would ask to assess the effectiveness of a content strategy, beyond impressions.

1️⃣ Quality of Conversations in Messenger. Are your posts sparking meaningful conversations, new opportunities, or collaborations in the form of messages?

2️⃣ Network Influence Growth. Is your content influencing your network by helping you grow connections and followers within your ideal audience demographic?

3️⃣ Profile Views from Feed. Are you seeing an increase in views from your feed because your ideal audience seeing your content and then taking the extra step to view your profile?

✨ The Takeaway

Impressions might show you how far your content is going, but the goal is to impact, and with that in mind, what really matters is the depth of the impact you’re making.

Focus on quality over quantity and how these outcomes align with your strategy – whether it’s in your conversations, connections, or content.

The below post last week was a great reminder of why I do what I do.

A LinkedIn post showcasing a milestone achieved through LinkedIn training from Kylie Chown

It’s not about chasing big numbers or going viral.

🎆It’s about helping people and businesses showcase the incredible work they’re already doing offline by making it visible online – with a clear strategy and the confidence to bring it to life.

Because when a business has a clear strategy and the confidence to put it into action, that’s when the real magic happens.

➡️They show up consistently, authentically, and strategically.

➡️They take control of their digital-first impression.

➡️They become the business that are first thought of, found and contacted.

And at the end of the day, for Stretch Think it was their work that made it happen. They showed up, embraced the strategy, and took the steps forward.

🥳 I’m so excited to see where they go from here!

A “Train the Trainer” approach to LinkedIn Training

It was great to wrap up the last trip of the year, getting to escape the Brisbane heat to be in Sydney, to deliver one of my favorite types of projects – a national, firm-wide approach to professional branding using LinkedIn.

What makes this program different?

👩🏫It’s more than just a one-off workshop. Instead, it’s built around a “Train the Trainer” concept.

Through multiple sessions, leaders enhance their own professional brand while being supported to take ownership of implementing the program within their own business units and teams between sessions.

✨By training and supporting their teams, these professionals help embed the learnings into the organisation. They turn the insights they gain from our sessions into company-wide actionable change.

This means that attendees can act as advocates, support change, and amplify the program’s impact across the business, all while enhancing their own personal brand.

Our sessions include:

✅ Overview – Understanding LinkedIn’s role in professional and business growth.

✅ Profile – Crafting profiles that reflect both individual strengths and organisational value (which is what we did today).

✅ Content – Developing a consistent and engaging content strategy.

✅ Connection – Building meaningful networks and fostering authentic engagement.

By delivering this over multiple sessions, these professionals can:

✅ Apply what they learn.

✅ Embed new habits.

✅ See real results.

✅ Take the learnings back to their business units, integrating the program more deeply into the organisation.

It’s been great to work with a business who is embracing LinkedIn as a tool to humanise their brand and drive growth at every level. You can read more here.
