From Hidden Experts to Visible Leaders: Why LinkedIn Is Your Business Advantage

They are not better than you. They are just more visible.

Your technical experts are often your best-kept secret. Inside the business, everyone knows who they are. The go-to’s – the people you turn to when a problem needs solving or something just has to get done.

But externally? No one knows who they are.

I saw this recently with a team of technical specialists.

They were awesome – delivering results daily, solving client challenges, driving outcomes. But from the outside, you’d never know it.

Clients weren’t seeing (and sometimes even questioning) the depth of capability.

Competitors looked more advanced, even when they weren’t.

And the business wasn’t getting credit for the expertise it already had.We worked together to roll out a LinkedIn training plan and coaching program.

The focus was practical, embed learning within the organisation.

This training included:

Credibility through profiles. Shifting from job descriptions and tech speak to profiles that connected with clients.

Confidence to share. Exploring ways to engage and contribute without adding pressure or “extra work.”

Networks with purpose. Connecting with peers, partners, and clients so expertise was visible in the right rooms.

Visibility with impact. Aligning activity with outcomes: stronger relationships, better conversations, and commercial opportunities.

Over time:

Experts grew more confident.

The business was seen as an authority in its space.

Clients had a clearer picture of the capability behind the brand

The takeaway: Expertise only makes an impact outside the organisation when it’s visible. Visibility builds trust, trust builds relationships, and relationships create opportunities.

A big thank you to PMI Queensland for hosting and to everyone who joined the workshop on Crafting Your Professional Brand on LinkedIn.

In today’s digital-first world, the way we show up online has become just as important as how we show up in person. Your professional brand is often the first impression people will have of you, and it can influence the opportunities that come your way.

Together we explored:

Why creating a clear professional brand statement matters defining who you are, who you serve, and the value you bring.

How clarity builds confidence and underpins how you communicate, both online and face-to-face.

That we live in a digital-first world where people will often look you up online before they meet you.

How your LinkedIn profile and activity are no longer “nice to have” they are key in shaping first impressions.

Practical ways to align your presence so you’re not just visible, but remembered for the right reasons.

Do you want your LinkedIn Done for You?

You might already know that LinkedIn strategy is a big part of what I do but I wanted to properly introduce My Digital Brand, especially if LinkedIn Done For You support could help you or your team.

Through My Digital Brand, we work with professionals, teams, and organisations who want to grow their presence on LinkedIn without having to do it all themselves.

If you’re thinking: “I know I should be doing more on LinkedIn… I just don’t have the time or headspace,” then this is for you.

If you’d like to have a quick chat and see if it’s a fit, you can book a time here.

“We’ve rolled out the training. The templates are ready. But barely anyone is posting.”

It’s one of the most common frustrations after LinkedIn training. The session goes well; people leave with notes and intentions but weeks later – crickets!

It’s rarely a knowledge problem. Most teams walk away from training knowing how to use LinkedIn. What they lack is the structure, systems and confidence to keep going. Without systems that support the behavior shift, sometimes the best-trained teams will hesitate to show up.

I see the difference clearly in organisations that implement the 5Rs of LinkedIn Team Engagement. These are the five areas that move teams from intention to visible and from consistent to contribution.
