How to create a LinkedIn leads list (without Sales Navigator)

🤔 Do you find yourself scrolling through LinkedIn, reacting and engaging with content based on what the platform’s algorithm decides to show you in your newsfeed?

If so, you’re not alone. In fact, when I asked this question in a training session yesterday, many of the group said they did too.

Many of us rely on passive consumption of content, leaving it to the algorithm to show us what’s most relevant.

While great for staying updated, isn’t always the most strategic or efficient when it comes to building professional relationships or leveraging business opportunities.

🎇 One of the things I consistently recommend to my clients is to create a LinkedIn leads list, even if they don’t have Sales Navigator.

Best part is, it’s an easy 2-step process.

➡️ Step 1: Mastering Boolean Searches on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a database which is searchable. Mastering your Boolean searches on LinkedIn is the first step.

Boolean searches allow you to refine your search results using specific operators such as AND, OR, NOT, quotes (” “), and parentheses ().

By understanding and applying these operators in the search bar, you can significantly narrow down your search.

Here is how you use them –

🌟 AND: Using AND ensures that all the terms you’re searching for appear in the profiles. For example, “operations AND manager” will return profiles that contain both terms.

🌟 OR: Use this to widen your search. For instance, “marketing OR sales” will find profiles with either word.

🌟 NOT: This operator excludes terms from your search. “Manager NOT assistant” helps filter out assistant profiles.

🌟 Parentheses: Use these to group operators for more complex searches, like “marketing AND (manager OR director)”.

✨ TIP – If you’re after new connections, select second degree connections. If you looking to engage your current connections, select 1st degree connections.

Once you’ve conducted a Boolean search and identified profiles of interest, the next step is to organise these leads efficiently.

Here’s how to do this:

🌟 Copy the URL from your search results: After performing your search, the browser’s address bar contains a URL that represents your specific query and the associated search results.

🌟 Paste the URL into an Excel Spreadsheet: Create a new spreadsheet and paste the URL into the first cell. This serves as a direct link back to your search results, allowing you to easily access and update your leads list.
